The first step to recognize legal male/female cannabis, and thus differentiate female plants from male plants, is to wait for the cannabis to be recognized as legal. The plants develop. Marijuana seedlings begin to reveal their sex just a few weeks after germination. Let’s try to imagine that the vegetative period is childhood and that flowering is the phase in which marijuana is adult. The identification of the sex of the seedlings can begin between these periods, that is, during the transition from adolescence to the final growth phase.
The most obvious signs that characterize female and male plants appear after the sixth week of the plant’s life. These signals are the pistils (in the female marijuana plant) and the small pollen sacs (in the male marijuana).

Here’s how to recognize a female marijuana plant.
The main characteristic that helps us understand that a legal herbaceous plant is female is the appearance of white pistils after (approximately) the sixth week of life, although the emergence of pistils can often take longer. These small white “hairs” primarily grow between the main stem and the branches, in the part called the axil. The pistils are nothing more than flowers that begin to sprout and form. Being able to see the pistils is a great event for legal hemp producers and CBD oil producers, as only female plants can produce flowers rich in resin and, consequently, cannabinoids such as CBD.
Male cannabis plants, on the other hand, produce pollen sacs that then pollinate the flowers of female plants. The result is the development of cannabis seeds: some growers celebrate… Others cry because it means that the flowering has been compromised.

Identifying a light male hemp is very simple, as it starts to develop small “balls” immediately after the end of the vegetative period. These balls are actually pollen sacs that, once fully developed, can pollinate female plants in the full flowering phase.
